Coconut oil is often used as a healthy supplement, and our intention is not to provide coconut oil dog treats as a replacement for a healthy diet and coconut oil supplements. While we cannot guarantee your dog will receive health benefits from eating coconut oil dog treats, we strive to use the highest quality ingredients so our treats are as healthy for your pet as possible.

Virgin Coconut Oil for Dogs

There are a two primary types of coconut oil – refined and unrefined. Refined coconut oil is bleached and deodorized leaving very little taste or color. While refined coconut oil works well for high heat baking, the bleaching process kills some of the important antioxidants important to dogs. Unrefined coconut oil, also referred to as “virgin coconut oil” is extracted from the fresh coconut. It retains the flavor and odor of coconut while retaining all of the nutritional benefits. Therefore when selecting coconut oil supplements or coconut oil dog treats, look for varieties listed as “virgin coconut oil”.

Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs)

Coconut oil consists of more than 90% saturated fats, most of this fat consisting of Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs). In addition to MCTs, coconut oil contains fatty acids including lauric acid which is also found in mother’s milk with antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties. This type of saturated fat is easily metabolized and turned into energy, aiding in digestion and weight loss. Listed below are some specific benefits of coconut oil for dogs. Again, we cannot guarantee or assume that coconut oil dog treats will provide these benefits. However, no one denies that dog treats with coconut oil are a healthier alternative to cheaper oils commonly used in dog treats.
